Hello and Goodbye.
I'm leaving Substack.
Hey guys!
I’ve been gone for months now. A lot has happened in the past months, but one of the reason’s why I haven’t been posting is because although I think Substack has the potential to be a great platform, it is also a place that has historically allowed far-right content to grow. I already knew this before I signed up, I knew there were some And with what happened in the past few weeks, I’ve decided that it is time for me to go.
About two weeks ago I got a notification on my phone (Substack was the only social media I actually had notification on) and it was a weird-looking obviously far-right notes post from a person I most certainly did not follow. I didn’t have the insight to print screen the notification, but that had already set my mind to leave Substack.
Yesterday I saw that Substack had sent a push alert, the same type of notification I got before, promoting a full on nazi blog and I just can’t anymore.
I’m a millennium that grew up along with the internet. I know things can be complicated when we are talking about accountability. How we depend on digital platforms makes everything tricky. And although I don’t blame writers for staying on Substack, I do understand the importance of the community that has been built in here, I can’t keep my writing here — it just doesn’t work for me anymore.
I’ve been looking for alternatives for a while now, but nothing I find can connect the newsletter format the way I want to my personal website. Although I do have a personal website, becapuig.com, Squarespace is not a platform built with community in mind, and that’s what I hope to achieve with my writing, art and content.
Anyway. I’ll keep writing and once I have settled down somewhere, I’ll let you guys know.
Thank you!
See you soon. :)
